Technology is making our daily life easier and future safe bit by bit. It is not wrong to say our daily routine majorly depends on technology. From our communication to eating habits, everything is controlled or processed by technology. It has made communication easier through mobile phones and brought people closer to social media networks.
Technology has done wonders, we can plan/bring together our holidays in a blink of an eye or talk to a person sitting miles apart in a fraction of seconds. Anything used in moderation is always helpful, however; overdoing or exploitation of it always results adversely. With each benefit comes a possible cost. Here are few examples of the negative impact of technology on us:
We are so much use to of technology in our daily life that we don’t realize, it is on the verge of being called addiction (rather it already is). From morning coffee to financial transactions we depend on technology for almost everything. Mobile phones are an integral part of our day now. We keep ourselves glued to gadgets and forget to realize the impact. Little children nowadays can run mobiles or tabs like an adult and forget the beauty of outdoor games.
Loneliness: It is said that technology is bringing us together, however through the computer-generated world. It is a common site in any home that even at family gatherings people get immersed in their electronic devices instead of talking to each other. Social pain is as real feeling as bodily pain. Nuclear families are many common phenomena nowadays and we often stay miles apart from our extended families, growing dependence on the virtual or digital world rather than face to face communication is considered to be making us feel more isolated.
Health issues: As much as technology is helping science to bring cures for different diseases, it is equally impacting our health too. Insomnia, depression, and obesity are just a few examples of this. Overuse of it can have a major impact on the physical and mental health of human being. Anticipation and then the lack of instant gratification in the social world might create a depression for an individual. Too much use of mobiles or laptops might result in neck or back strain.
Environmental hazards: Use of pesticides, an emanation of harmful gasses, toxic waste in water and use of plastic are few things that we need to pay attention to before it is too late to make changes. Technology sometimes uses resources which are not necessarily renewable such as minerals or natural chemicals. As technology is blessing us with more profit in monetary terms, it is indeed important to pay attention towards environmental consequence as well.
As mentioned before with each benefit comes a potential cost, if we apprehend the cost and work together towards curtailing it then technology will remain a boon for us for a really long time. We must be aware of a harmful aspect of exploitation of technology to avoid any consequences.
There is no denying that through technological progression we have made our life much easier and better but as with all things in life, moderation is the key element here too. We should learn to create balance in life with everything which will keep us healthy and happy too.
